The Bloomer Legacy: 1.8 The Mean Teen

Since Isaac is now a teenager, we made some adjustments to his room. Aside from becoming mean and physically gifted, Isaac now also has the domestic trait, since he rolled the One Big Happy family aspiration. Quite a coincidence, considering this was the aspiration that would have to be assigned to him on his next birthday anyway. Sadly, there’s absolutely nothing he can do towards the aspiration in his teenage years.

Some things haven’t changed, Isaac still goes fishing with his father every so often.

However, with a new influx of hormones, obviously there are some major changes on the horizon. Much like Kirk, Isaac appears pretty popular with the ladies – they’d all like to become Mrs Newcrest Leader one day, I suppose.

Yusuf: “Hey man, I can’t believe you got all those girls chasing after you! High five!”

The teens hit the bar at the park and Yusuf follows Isaac like a puppy. “I want to be like you, dude. No, I want to BE you! You got it all, and the girls are loving it. I’ll never be as popular…”

Isaac grins: “Sure you will man, you just have to believe in yourself and the chicks will dig it!” See, maybe Isaac isn’t all that mean. At least when things are going his way, he isn’t…

Isaac: “Hey there pretty lady, do you want some sweet legacy lovin?”

Madeline: “Err… I don’t think so…”

Isaac: “Who do you think you are to reject me? I own this place, or at least one day I will, and you’ll be sorry to make me your enemy!”

Madeline: “Geesh, overreact much? Just because you’re a Bloomer doesn’t mean you poop gold!”

Madeline is not impressed with Isaac.

Isaac moves on quickly and chats to his friend Lonnie by the fire.

Lonnie: “Hey Isaac, guess what! I just talked to my cousin Juanita earlier…”

“She has a major crush on you! Wouldn’t it be cool if you guys got together? We’d be practically family!”

Not wasting any time, Isaac makes his move on Juanita, who does seem to be falling for his on and off charm.

They spend the rest of the evening together and Isaac pretends to listen to Juanita’s rambling about the stars. Whatever it takes, Isaac knows he’s the man.

With Isaac’s mom working evenings as a Chief Drink Operator, and his dad being out till late fishing, Isaac has the perfect opportunity to throw a teen party. Luckily he’s inherited Maranda’s cocktail making skills… not.

Lonnie: “Tonight’s gonna be awesome dude! I brought my cousin, she couldn’t stop talking about you! And guess what else, this is my girlfriend Breanne!”

Lonnie and Breanne’s lovey-dovey behaviour was hard to miss. Isaac even heard Lonnie talk about promise rings, barf. So much for a wingman.

Isaac: “Hey guys, you know why Lonnie has to stick to one girl? It’s because his plum is this big!”

Isaac: “I on the other hand am here for you ladies and let’s just say that my plum situation is pretty…”

Juanita: “Oh shut up Isaac!”

Juanita: “Nobody wants to hear about your plum! And what’s this talk of seeing all the girls… I thought you were different!”

Yusuf: “Well I for one am a one woman kinda guy Juanita, and I don’t see why anyone would want to be anything else, with a girl like you…”

Isaac: “Get lost Yusuf! One woman kinda guy? More like no woman kinda guy!”

But much to Isaac’s displeasure, Yusuf’s agenda certainly seemed to be working with the girls, and by the end of the night Isaac’s has seen Yusuf swap numbers with several of them, while he, the heir to the Bloomer throne, was left with nothing but a messy house.

He watched his guests leave, cursing Yusuf silently and for a brief moment, he pondered if Lonnie had it right all along.

“Isaac, what’s this mess?” Coming home from work to a house full of empty cups was not Maranda’s idea of a fun way to end the day.

“Oh I don’t know mom, maybe a ghost of your so-called friend came here and made it messy, blargh!”

Maranda: “Isaac, I do not appreciate this behaviour! I’ll talk to your father! And the house better be tidy by the time I get up in the morning!”

Isaac: “Whatever, I’m awesome!”

The Bloomer Legacy: 1.6 A Family Friend (Part 2)

It’s become the usual afternoon routine in the Bloomer family – when Maranda left off for work and Isaac returned from school, him and Kirk would go to the park. While Kirk would perfect his fishing…

Isaac was playing on the pirate ship to improve his motor skill.

Kirk’s finally reached the level 10 of fishing skill, but he has yet to catch 20 different kinds of fish to fulfil his second aspiration. Some of his catches are becoming rather impressive though.

Once Kirk start’s fishing he loses track of time, and usually is reliant on Isaac to come tell him it’s gotten too late and that they should head home. Luckily the community is pretty safe, and in any case there’s nobody else around tonight apart from Kirk and Isaac…

Ruby: “…and me! Don’t you dare forget about me! I’m ALWAYS here!”

Sorry Ruby…

Isaac was just on his way to tell his dad it was high time for them to go home, when he noticed Ruby’s tombstone levitating. He was a bit spooked at first, but then he figured it was probably just the wind (sadly he did not inherit Maranda’s genius trait).

He turned around and saw a spectral figure by the fountain.

Isaac: “Hello!”

Ruby: “You can see me? Nobody ever sees me…”

Isaac: “Of course I can see you! Although you are a bit see-through, so maybe that’s why some people don’t notice you.”

Ruby chuckled: “Well that must be it!”

Isaac: “My name is Isaac, and one day I’ll be the leader of Newcrest! I hope to meet everyone in town by then and become their friend, so that they are happy with me being the leader… but I haven’t met you yet! What’s your name?”

Ruby: “What a charming young man you are Isaac! My name is Ruby, and this park is my home. It will always be my home… I can never leave.”

Isaac: “Why not?”

Ruby: “I died here Isaac. It wasn’t my time to go yet, but my body burned and my spirit had nowhere to go… so I’m trapped here forever.”

Isaac: “That is awful! I’m so sorry you’re dead… wait, did you say your name was Ruby? That means we’re already friends! And as your friend I should help you!”

Ruby: “What are you talking about little boy? I’ve never met you in my life! Well… or in my death.”

Isaac: “You’re our family friend, so you’re already my friend! My parents are Kirk and Maranda Bloomer, and they were your friends too!”

Ruby turned a crimson hue of red. She was beside herself with rage.

Ruby: “Friends? Friends! Your parents were not my friends! Your parents KILLED ME!”

The Bloomer Legacy: 1.5 A Family Friend

It is my pleasure to properly introduce the generation 2 heir, Isaac Bloomer! He’s inherited Maranda’s hair and skin tone, but I was pleased to discover he has Kirk’s eyes. He’s an outgoing little boy and wants to be a Rambunctious Scamp.

Still very much a daddy’s boy, he likes to help Kirk out in the garden.

And much like when he was a baby, he continues to go on fishing trips with his dad too. (Author’s note: Apparently fishing raises the mental skill for children – who knew?)

Being a mother has inspired Maranda to work on her cooking more. Some of the meals she makes now look really tasty.

But naturally her true passion still lies with mixology. She is now a Juice Boss!

The whole family likes to hang out in the garden together.

And Kirk has also installed some monkey bars in the backyard – this way Maranda can keep an eye on Isaac from the house, and Kirk can do the same while fishing.

Soon enough it was time for Isaac’s first day of school.

Maranda was rather emotional about it. They grow up so fast!

Kirk comforted Maranda: “He’ll do just fine honey, he’s a smart little boy and he loves making friends. Everyone will love him!”

And they did! Isaac made fast friends with most of his classmates, which should hopefully make his future life as the Newcrest leader a lot easier.

At the weekend the whole family visited the park together.

Kirk: ”This is the Roby Perrin Memorial Park son. Your mommy and I built it together to establish a community heart here in Newcrest.”

Isaac: “Who is Ruby Perrin daddy? And what’s a mermorial?”

Kirk: “Let’s sit down…”

Kirk: “I will tell you all about Ruby when you’re old enough, but for now I need you to understand more about this park, and our family’s role in the town of Newcrest.”

“Look around you, and you will see sims having a wonderful time and creating wonderful happy memories in this park. One day, all of Newcrest will be a happy place like this. And that’s why our family is here, to build a thriving community.

But first, we need to bring more sims into the town. It’s going to be your job to do that by building small houses for them, just big enough for a sim to start off. Everyone will remember you for helping sims come here, and you’ll have many friends for it…”

Isaac: “Will Ruby Perrin be one of those friends?”

Kirk sighs: “Why don’t you go find your mom Isaac. I’ll go have a look if the plants need watering…”

Isaac: “Mom, what’s a mermorial? And will I be friends with Ruby Perrin?”

Maranda raised her eyebrows: “I can see your dad did well on answering your questions.”

Isaac: “All he talked about was many little houses for many little sims… or something.”

Maranda: “Of course he would.” She took a deep breath.

“A memorial is a place for a very special sim that should be remembered. Ruby Perrin was such a sim, she was a dear family friend. She died very young, so we have this tombstone here and named the park after her. That way everyone who comes to the park will remember her in some way, and be thankful she existed.”

Isaac: “But mom, if she’s dead that means I’ll never get to be friends with her!”

Maranda hugged her son tightly. She hated to see her baby boy upset.

Maranda: “Weren’t you listening sweetie? I told you Ruby was a family friend – that makes her your friend already!”

Isaac beamed: “Really?”

Maranda: “Of course! You’re family, aren’t you? Now let’s go play on the pirate ship – I bet we can find a treasure!”

Meanwhile, Kirk was having fun catching up with his beloved plants.

Isaac: “Bam bam bam! Take that cow plant sea monster!”

Maranda: “Just you wait to see the real sea monster…”

“Muhahaha I’m the queen sea monster, and you sailor are doomed!”

Isaac: “Oh noo, the queen of the sea! All men abandon the ship, she’ll drown us all!”

Isaac ended up having an amazing time at the park, and it would become his new favourite place from this day on.

He made many new friends too.

But before he and his parents left in the evening, he made sure to say goodbye to his special new friend Ruby.

The Bloomer Legacy: 1.4 A New Generation

The Bloomers started settling in in their new house (if you would like to have a full house tour, as well as take a look at the newly built Ruby Perrin Memorial Park, click here). Since both Kirk and Maranda are adults now, I gave them both a makeover.

New look and new life stage aside, they’re still very much in love. And for the most part enjoying their new home.

Although Maranda now panics at the slightest sign of fire. With this family’s history, I would say that’s understandable.

She’s much more at peace in her new reading nook – as a genius sim, Maranda needs frequent mental stimulation. It’s all the more intriguing she’s chosen mixology as her career path and lifetime ambition. “Mixing drinks is a science!”

As for Kirk, an outdoorsy sim like him could never stay cooped up inside, so now that his Freelance Botanist aspiration is complete, he’s taken up fishing.

Fishing in the pond near their house in particular is a good way to meet the members of his community as well, something that Kirk perceives as highly important.

Speaking of highly important things, Maranda is pregnant! It took three tries, so she’s overjoyed. She couldn’t wait for Kirk to come home and ran to the fishing pond as soon as she found out.

Kirk is ecstatic! The legacy will continue!

Overwhelmed with joy, Kirk decides to keep the next fish he catches as a family pet rather than mounting it. Seeing as it’s a gold fish, it probably makes more sense anyway. Meet Steve, who narrowly escaped death.

As Maranda grows bigger, Kirk gets even more sentimental.

He visits the Ruby Perrin memorial park for the first time since the family’s left the plot of land. The memories attached to the place are painful, but Kirk can’t help but smile when he sees sims all around him enjoying the new park.

He does of course go pay a visit to his old friend Ruby.

The time has come! Both of the soon to be parents remained unusually calm when Maranda went into labour. They opted for a home birth, since there were no hospitals nearby yet with the area being new.

Welcome Isaac Bloomer into this world. His parents didn’t need more than one glance at the newborn to tell that he’s pure perfection.

Kirk couldn’t believe how tiny and innocent Isaac was. The thought that this little bundle of joy would one day become the new leader of Newcrest was terrifying to him. But it also filled him with excitement. There was so much he had to teach Isaac!

Sure to not waste any precious time, he even took Isaac with him on his fishing trips.

Maranda almost had to steal little Isaac away to get some time with him! She was not really thinking about any of the heavy legacy duties that Kirk kept talking about. Apparently Isaac was meant to build an entire neighbourhood of affordable starter homes? Maranda shook her head. “Now how would you do that little one? With those tiny hands and… diaper changing time!”

The new parents still made sure to spend quality time together, especially with Maranda always supplying an array of exotic drinks when she was experimenting with recipes for work.

While babies are cute, I must confess that with all babies looking exactly the same in The Sims 4, I’m never particularly enticed to take too many pictures of them.

Soon enough, Isaac’s infant days had passed and he was he was about to age up.

Will he take more after his mom or his dad? What will he look like? And what will he aspire to do with his sim life? Tune in next time to find out!

#BuildNewcrest Legacy: Haunted Memorial Park and the New Bloomer Family Home

Since Kirk has completed his aspiration, the family was able to build the first public lot, a memorial park dedicated to their recently deceased friend. I have chosen to only build the park for the money the Bloomers actually have in their family funds – I would have liked to place more shrubbery around, but they simply couldn’t afford it. If you’d like to download the lot for your game, note you can find me on the gallery under the name ThePlumbobBlog. Note that the name of the park spoils who dies in the series, so make sure you’re all caught up with the Bloomer family before looking it up. The lot comes with a tomb, a ghost and a dead cow plant.

The chess table that’s cost us so much.

The camp fire area.

The kids pirate playground incorporates the dead cow plant.

The garden with Kirk’s plants.

The wedding arch area.

As for the Bloomer family, their new home is located near the canal where Kirk first declared his love to Maranda. They have also have a fishing pond in the back yard, which is convenient for Kirk’s new aspiration; Angling Ace. Kirk likes to spend his days fishing, but knowing he’s not too far from Maranda.

The kitchen/dining/living room area. This is the most furnished part of the house and certainly a step up from the previous home. While the family’s life is no longer as rural as it used to be, it was still important to Kirk to include many plants in their home.

The bathroom is quite luxurious compared to its predecessor as well.

The bedroom is fairly simple for now.

And here is the house floor plan:

And yes that is a baby in the room on the left… but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Until next time!

The Bloomer Legacy Part 1.3 – Love and Death

Kirk meets up with his stalker groupie friend Howard Bloomer to discuss his plans. He found a pink crystal during today’s round of collecting, and it made him think of Maranda. Suddenly, he’d realised what exactly he wanted to do with it…

He had it put into a ring! Kirk took Maranda to his favourite part of Newcrest, took a deep breath and surrounded by flowers, he proposed.

She said yes!

Kirk couldn’t believe his luck. Even in his wildest dreams he couldn’t have imagined that he’ll meet a woman like Maranda in Newcrest. More than ever, he was determined to create a community that will be the heart of the town for years to come. For his and Maranda’s legacy.

In preparation for Maranda moving in, Kirk decided it was time for some home improvements. Oh the luxury of a separate bathroom!

The big day has arrived! Maranda contemplated what becoming Mrs Bloomer had in store for her. As for Kirk, as soon as he saw Maranda in her wedding dress, he couldn’t take his eyes of her.

The couple invited their close friend Bob Pancake, Kirk’s number one fan Howard Bloomer and also Kirk’s friend Ruby Perrin, who opted to wear a completely outlandish outfit. Perhaps it’s a good thing Kirk never developed feelings for her! The last guest was Summer Holiday – while she is not very close with either the bride or the groom, she’s always been friendly to them, and I’ve always liked her.

The ceremony was small and simple. The couple didn’t have much money – Kirk couldn’t even afford a tuxedo and had to make do with borrowing Bob Pancakes’ old blazer (Bob swears he could fit into it not too long ago… but he has no illusions of ever losing the weight again. He let Kirk keep it after the ceremony).

Of course, it wouldn’t be Kirk if there weren’t flowers everywhere. The arch the couple exchanged their vows under, along with the shrubs around it was going to become a part of the public park and remain there for many joyful occasions to come in future generations… or so Kirk and Maranda hoped.

They exchanged the rings…

And for the first time, Mr and Mrs Bloomer kissed. (Well, not quite. I still have to change Maranda’s last name to Bloomer. I do wish the game gave you a popup option to change the newlyweds’ last names after the ceremony).

The party was somewhat unconventional, with the bride frying up whatever fruits had in the garden to feed the guests, and Summer not being able to put off her work out routine just for a bit.

But everyone had fun, and the love of the newlyweds was contagious. Ruby looks genuinely happy for them in her hideous unique outfit.

Howard Bloom seems to be a fan of the ensemble though.

And the bride and groom couldn’t have a care in the world for their guests’ fashion sense. Or anything else, for the matter.

The following day, the couple celebrated their birthday. Maranda even went through the trouble of making two cakes! She wants to be in the culinary career, so the cooking skill will definitely come in handy (although Maranda’s ultimate goal is to become a Master Mixologist).

We got her a bar to practice on, and Kirk caught up with the plants to give them much needed attention after the last few days’ festivities.

I’m not sure if Kirk can handle having a mixologist in the house though – hopefully he won’t become too much of a juiceoholic!

With Maranda in the house now, we can finally attempt a gold weenie roast event again. The couple is on it. They roast the hot dogs, tell the stories and the event seems to go swimmingly – Bob even helps out with some of the grilling (and yes, we have a brand new cowplant in the back, woo!)

Towards the end of the event, one of the chairs catches on fire, but Maranda has it under control, and the event gets a gold rating just in time for the guests to enjoy the last few minutes of the party.

Wait… what?

Ruby! When did you catch on fire? And how come we never noticed? Nooooooo!

“Please Grim she’s so young! She’s made some questionable style choices, but there is no need for such a harsh punishment! I’ll never forgive myself!”

Grim: “Ah well tough for you, Mr Bloomer. Congratulations on the wedding by the way. And what a great weenie roast. I’d say it’s a gold event. Muhahahaha!”

“It IS pretty cosy by the fire!”

Here lies Ruby Perrin, a beloved friend. Children don’t play with fire.

On the bright side, our cow plant grew up!

And died shortly after. Oops. (Why do they need to be fed so often!) I can’t handle all this death…

Maranda turned to juice for comfort. Perhaps she drank a bit too much of it, or perhaps it was her conscience acting up, but she could have sworn she saw Ruby clean the grill from beyond one night.

Oh Ruby… I’m so sorry!

Kirk and Maranda knew it was time to leave. Kirk reached the top of the Freelance Botanist aspiration, and they saved up enough to convert the plot of land into a proper park. They would dedicate the park to Ruby, and leave her memorial behind. Hopefully they will have better luck in their new house.

Until next time!

My take on the #BuildNewcrest legacy challenge – meet Kirk Bloomer

I have always been a legacy style player. Granted, the furthest I’ve ever gotten was generation 6, but nonetheless, playing one family for generations and bringing them from rags to riches is my preferred way of playing (although I tend to try to put off the riches part for as long as possible). I’ve been intending to start a new legacy for a while, and wanted to incorporate the town of Newcrest somehow. Luckily I came across Simply Vanilla Sims Blog and her #BuildNewcrest legacy challenge.

What this essentially is is a legacy challenge with a bit of a twist, as your family has been given the task of building the Newcrest neighbourhood from scratch. You start in the blank world and each generation has a specific goal, such as building the community park, gym and so on. For a full list of rules and background information, you should definitely check out ShadyLady_DQ’s original thread on the challenge here.

Meet my founder, Kirk Bloomer. He loves the outdoors, is a perfectionist and is a cheerful sim. With no possessions to his name – other than his positive attitude and enthusiasm – he could not believe his luck that he became the sim responsible for building the Newcrest community.

In line with the challenge’s rules, Kirk’s main quest will be creating the community park – his family’s lot will become the public park once he fulfills the Freelance Botanist aspiration. I have decided to start off with no money whatsoever (this is not an official requirement of the challenge, just my own sadistic preference).

Additionally, I am also making the challenge a tiny bit harder by not allowing Kirk to get a proper job. The challenge does not allow Sims to leave Newcrest (with the exception of Magnolia Promenade and Granite Falls), and my take on this is that since there is no businesses in the area yet, there are no jobs he could actually work that are close enough for him to get to. It will be Kirk’s job to attract investors to the area and make sure his family members will struggle less than himself.

This means Kirk will primarily be earning money from gardening, fishing and collecting. Collecting is especially important at this stage, since he is going to need a place to sleep in tonight, and with no skills his chances of catching a fish are pretty slim. Also, he’s going to need to collect plants in order to start his dream garden.

Searching for frogs is my favourite method and is actually more profitable than some simmers realise. Once you have two frogs in your inventory, you can breed them to get an extra frog to sell for cash. This gets especially fruitful if you happen to breed two rare species.

As the founder of the neighbourhood, Kirk introduces himself to the locals. They don’t seem to have a lot of faith in him quite yet, but hopefully he can convince them that he can make Newcrest the place to be, starting a thriving community with a park at its heart.

Being restricted to an empty neighbourhood and starting out practically homeless can prove to be challenging, considering I can’t send Kirk to the gym to shower or mooch some food in the Magnolia Blossom park. Luckily, I was pleased to discover that the neighbourhood provides for most of his needs, with public toilets and grills being practically at his doorstep… if he had a door, that is.

Nina Caliente appears to need to use the restroom as well – perhaps the ladies loo is clogged? I have never played with any of the Calientes (unless Don Lothario counts) in the Sims 4 and would love to change that, so Nina might well be future partner material (although I’m fairly certain she does not quite want to commit to anyone).

After gathering all that was humanly possible to collect in the area, including what will hopefully be the start of Kirk’s dream garden, it’s time to catch some dinner… So far it’s not looking too promising, and Kirk’s stomach is growling.

Luckily Bob Pancakes comes to the rescue and fries up a burger for Kirk. I think this is a beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Kirk was able to purchase a tent by the funds he got from collecting, so he will not have to sleep on the bench tonight. He sets up his garden by planting some flowers on the each side of the entrance, waters them and calls it a day. Time to get some rest!

Waking up dirty and smelly, unfortunately Kirk will have to complete a round of collecting before he can afford to clean up. Perhaps I should have let him spend the night on the bench and invested in a shower first?

Luckily for him, all of the plants in the area were ready to harvest, bringing the much needed cash. Kirk was able to purchase a camping shower (with mysterious plumbing) and scrub away his blues.

Being all clean presents the perfect opportunity to meet the ladies. This is Ruby Perrin. I don’t know much about her yet. but she seems cute and her and Kirk get along well. Definitely a contender.

While having dinner, another lovely lady, Maranda Bales, catches Kirk’s eye.

I feel like her outfit seems to insinuate she might also be a gardening enthusiast, and the way her dress matches the cherry blossoms around certainly works in her favour.

Kirk seems to think so too – he can’t take his eyes off her.

We learn that Maranda is outgoing, and a perfectionist just like Kirk. Being a mail courrier, Maranda has taken on the task of delivering post to the residents of the neighbourhood, in spite of nobody having house numbers quite yet… or even houses.

That sounds very brave, Kirk can use people like Maranda in his new world. He appears smitten, pondering about what him and Maranda could build together in the future as she walks away…

It’s been quite a day for Kirk, so he’s going to say his goodbyes to you for now and head off to bed. Until next time!
